Coursera Financial Aid

June 12, 2018 I applied for financial aid for a programming course on Coursera. I had hopes that I would receive it, but I felt as though it was unlikely. I have had no experience with Coursera’s financial aid process prior to this event and had no contact with anyone who had. When you see a course you would like to take and haven’t the funds, what else are you supposed to do? which you must answer in at least 150 words.

I started the financial aid process, which included two main paragraphs and one extra, survey, paragraph. The first paragraph asks the question, “Why are you applying for Financial Aid?” while the second paragraph asks the question, “How will taking this course help you achieve your career goals?” which you must answer in at least 150 words. These paragraphs act as screening questions. If you are not serious about taking this course, why would you waste your time writing responses to these two questions? If you don’t have a good reason for applying for financial aid, you may not pass this screening option. I believe these questions also provide information to Coursera as a sort of “How does this course benefit you?”. Although this is mere speculation. I may have taken these questions more seriously than most, because I sat in my seat thinking long and hard about appropriate responses to these questions. I wished to provide a genuine response because the opportunity to take this course was very important to me.
