My Computer Science Experience
I have a rather limited computer science exposure. I am in no way an expert, in fact, I am hardly a beginner. That is why I feel I have the expertise to talk on this topic.
When you begin your journey into the field of computer science, it is daunting and confusing. Some courses work very well for some and some courses can crush your soul. I had the computer science enthusiasm knocked right out of me right off the bat. Yet, even after I had lost my interest in computer science, I carried on with an astrophysics project which focused heavily on Python code. This kept that spark, that passion, burning with in me, although it was only an ember at this point. When I finished my first year at my university, the professor in charge of my research told me to get certified in Python programming. Admittedly, I was not looking forward to it. I believed that computer science courses were terrible and would drag on for an eternity.
As it was my job, I enrolled in Python Programming: A Concise Introduction offered by Wesleyan University through Coursera. I loved this course. It was taught for a beginner to learn, not for a beginner to be in over there head. The course was taught very well and reinvigorated my passion for computer science. I finished the entire course in about a week. The moment the course ended, I enrolled in Stanford Lagunita’s Computer Science 101. I completed that course in one weekend. I was addicted to taking these courses. I am now starting Duke University’s Java Programming and Software Engineering Fundamentals…
