My Opinion On Three Month Boot Camps

Do I believe that three month boot camps are a good idea? Well, they teach coding quite well to get you from nothing to entry-level job ready. These bootcamps provide you with instructors who help guide you in your code writing. They teach you to correct your mistakes and teach you how to improve. These are great things to learn, but the cost is moderately steep. They are a good method for people wanting to make a quick career change, or to start a career in a different area. I am all for that. I do, however, believe that there are different options that may work better for you. The option I am doing is taking MOOCs to teach myself how to code, then approach professionals in the field and talk through my code with them. This method works for me due to the abundance of professionals in Ann Arbor, Michigan. This may not always work, dependent on your location. The next option that I think will probably push you forward the most is a degree in statistics, with a minor in computer science. It seems to me in present day that a computer science degree is losing its value, and a statistics or mathematics degree will carry you a long way.

What is your opinion? How did you learn best?

Thank you for reading!
