A critical review of the University of Michigan course taught through Coursera.

A picture of my course certificate

Interested in Data Science, I enrolled in the course “Introduction to Data Science in Python” by the University of Michigan. This was one of the worst mistakes I have made. I made it to the end of this course; I do not feel as though I have learned anything. The material the lectures covered rarely showed up in the programming assignments. The instructor seemed as though he resented every minute he taught the course. I have never seen such a lack of enthusiasm in an instructor before. I am fairly certain the instructor did not smile once throughout the entire course. He was absent from the discussion boards, for the most part. The autograder was more or less broken as it glitched in some way each week. During week three, I had all but one answer correct, but since my last answer was wrong the autograder returned a grade of 0/100.

I enrolled in this course to be taught an introduction to data science using python, but what I got was a couple of assignments that stated “Independent Study is required” and a certificate at the end. If I had wanted to self study this topic, I would have. I wouldn’t have wasted my time with a Coursera course. This class is not worth the $49 that it costs. If you are interested…
